Berrien County, Cass County, Buchanan, MI Community

Thanksgiving in Buchanan, Michigan, is all about community spirit, cozy traditions, and finding your own way to celebrate. While the town doesn’t host a traditional Thanksgiving Day parade, that just means you get to create your own perfect holiday morning. Whether you’re lacing up your running shoes, cheering from your couch, or gathering with neighbors, this small town knows how to make Turkey Day memorable.

No Parade? No Problem

Buchanan doesn’t have a Thanksgiving parade this year. But before you feel disappointed, consider this a chance to explore some fantastic alternatives that might just become your new favorite traditions. From hitting the pavement in a community race to streaming the biggest parades in the country from your living room, you’ve got options that beat standing in the cold for hours.

Get Moving With the YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run

Want to earn your turkey dinner? The Niles-Buchanan YMCA Thanksgiving Day Run takes place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, and is a 44-year tradition that brings together over 2,700 participants each year. Choose from a 10K run, 5K run/walk, or 1-mile fun run that starts at 8:00 AM. Kids are welcome to join the fun, and strollers are allowed (but leave your pup at home for this one).

The race winds through downtown Niles, and the energy is contagious. Plus, proceeds support the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, funding swim lessons and youth programs for local families. Registration closes November 25, and if you sign up by October 26, you’ll snag the official 2025 race shirt. Early registration costs $35 per person or $30 for households of two to eight people.

Watch the Big Shows From Your Couch

Sometimes the best seat in the house is actually in your home. America’s Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit celebrates its 99th year on November 27, 2025. The parade kicks off at 8:45 AM on Woodward Avenue, and you can watch it live on WDIV Local 4 from 10 AM to noon. Pre-parade coverage starts at 6 AM for early birds.

Can’t get to a TV? Stream it on ClickOnDetroit.com or check out the Parade Zone multi-camera livestream on YouTube for different viewing angles. The parade reaches over 185 television markets nationwide, so even grandma in Florida can tune in.

Prefer the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade? NBC has you covered with coverage featuring giant balloons, spectacular floats, marching bands, and celebrity performances. Stream it on Peacock or catch it on your local NBC station.

Behind the Scenes: Parade Magic

Ever wonder what goes into those massive parade floats? Most floats take months to design and build, with teams of artists and engineers working together. The giant character balloons at Macy’s can be several stories tall and require dozens of handlers to keep them grounded. Marching bands often practice their routines for an entire year, perfecting every step and note for their big moment on national TV.

Parade performers brave freezing temperatures, early morning call times, and crowds of millions, all to bring joy to viewers. Those elaborate costumes? Many weigh over 50 pounds. The dedication is real, and it shows in every smile and wave.

Make Your Own Thanksgiving Magic

Whether you’re racing through the streets of Niles or watching parades in your pajamas with a mug of hot cocoa, Buchanan gives you the freedom to celebrate your way. Gather your crew, plan your morning, and remember that the best Thanksgiving traditions are the ones you create together. This Turkey Day, make it yours.
